The Final Conference of the Sustainability@Leave COST Action (CA21150: Parental Leave Policies and Social Sustainability), held in Prague on 26 May 2026 at Charles University, featured the official data release of the second wave of the Czech Generations and Gender Survey (GGS-II). Bringing together researchers and policymakers working on parental leave, gender equality, and work–care reconciliation, the conference offered an ideal setting to introduce the newly available data and highlight their potential for future research.
The Czech GGS-II currently comprises two waves of data collection conducted in 2020–2022 and 2025. The panel follows an initial sample of 5,594 respondents, of whom 3,717 participated in the second wave, corresponding to a 66% retention rate. The dataset opens up new opportunities for both cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses of topics related to the intersection of parenthood and employment – from experiences with maternity, paternity, and parental leave to return-to-work intentions, flexible working arrangements, the division of childcare and housework, and attitudes towards gender roles and working parents. The newly released data and accompanying documentation are available to the research community through the GGP infrastructure.
Martin Kreidl, the project leader in the Czech Republic, and Solveig Cunningham from the Dutch NIDI also informed the research community and the broader professional audience associated with the COST Action Sustainability@Leave about the opportunity to actively participate in the preparation of the next wave of the survey (GGS-III, planned for around 2032) and about the ongoing efforts to expand the GGP to additional countries. This international research initiative thus continues to offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the production of data that help better understand changes in family and working life across Europe and beyond.
At this webinar, fieldwork procedures implemented in the second wave of Czech GGSII., conducted between January and September 2025, as well as an analytical approach to respondent mismatch across waves, will be presented by Martin Kreidl and Daniel Horn.
