How do we select survey participants?
Two waves of the data collection took place in the Czech Republic in 2005 and 2008 and over 10,000 respondents were inteviewed in both of them. The new round of data collection will take place in 2020, 2023, and 2026. In 2020, we plan to interview 6,000 repondents. Why so many people? Researchers often need to investigate only sup-populations or relatively rare phenomena, which can sharply decrease the overall sample. Hence, the larger sample enable for these types of analysis, while the statistical power will remain high.
How do we select these respondents? We use techniques of probability sampling from the whole Czech population. Thus, all citizens of the Czech Republic of age 18-69 have the same probability of being in the sample of the survey and the results should be generalizable to the whole Czech population. As the low response rate represent a serious thread to the data quality, we need you as a potential respondent to help us through your participation. If you are chosen to the sample, you can contribute to production of valuable information about life in our country, and potentially to implementation of helpfull and well-informed social policies.
